Need replacement motor oil filters for my JD950
(filter P/N M801002 or CH10467). Nearest
dealer is 40+ miles. Anybody know a common
equivalent (say, Fram or Motorcraft) ? Since the
motor was made by Yanmar, is there an equivalent
Yanmar part number ?

You can use fram's cross ref feature at their website. Wix also has
that feature.
Shows ph5046 is cross for ch10467. Wix is 51344.

If you have a Napa auto parts store nearby, they can usually fix you up with
filters. Save some bucks too.

Picked up NAPA part number 1334 which they said is
equivalent to
JD M801002. The threads seem to match, but the filter
housing is
too fat (diameterwise) for the cutout in the tractor engine
cowl.
JD wants $6.25 for the factory part, NAPA part under $5.
But for
two bucks I'm not going to cut a relief in the gorgeous
green cowl.

Should try cross to 1344 instead of 1334. Both listed for yanmar, but
one may be skinnier than the other.

I went out and looked. I'm using PH3593A. It's only 3" in diameter,
should fit. The Napa is 3.252".

I bought a WIX filter for my 850 from my parts supplier the first time I
started it rapped, not getting oil fast enough. I tried it again same
thing. I swapped to a Fram am no more rapping guess the internal valving is
different than just the size. The Fram is longer and may not fit if you have
power steering , at least on my 850.

According to a chart I got at the JD dealer, the 850 and 950
use the same filter (JD P/N M801002). I bit the bullet and
bought two of them ($6.88 each). Next time I'll try the
Fram if I can find it (usually available at autoparts
places). What is the Fram part number or where on the
internet did you find the Fram interchange chart ?

I use a Fram PH 5046 it was in the Fram book listed for my 850. It is a
longer than JD filter and may hit the PS linkage you need to check before
you buy it is the correct diameter though. I have not had any problems for
the last 10 years with them. The WIX just would not hold the oil or
something I was not going chance using them 2-3 startups with noise was
enough to convince me, it was in the trash. I just changed the filter and
all startup noises disappeared. Good thing I only tried one my parts jobber
wanted to sell me a case.
